Why is Rent musical so bad?
Why is Rent musical so bad?
Rent regularly fails at the primary function of a book musical, which is to coherently tell a story. Too often the action stops so that the actors can serenade us from the lip of the stage, and rarely does it feel earned. Between the scream-singing and operatic emotion, it’s easy to lose sight of the plot.
Is Rent worth watching?
Not quite Phantom of the Opera cringe-worthy, but not as much fun to blow raspberries at, either. Why do people hate the Rent movie?
Maybe people hate on RENT now because we want to demonstrate how much we’ve grown, because backlash always sets in when a cultural property goes mainstream (and especially when it gets made into a painfully mediocre movie).
What was wrong with Rent the movie?
Beyond the poor casting and director choices, the movie just turned out to be really bad. Everything felt artificial. The characters felt more smug and shallow on screen then they did in 1994. Any dramatic arch or reasons to care about these characters vanished.
What does Maureen’s protest in Rent mean?
She is based on the character Musetta in La Bohème. Maureen is a performance artist. She seems to be popular amongst the crowd, and hosts protests, one of which is to stop the homeless being evicted and mistreated by people like Benny.
