What is Wine GE?
This is my build of WINE based on/forked from the most recent bleeding-edge proton experimental wine repo. This is meant to be used with non-steam games outside of Steam. For Steam games, I provide Proton-GE for usage with Lutris, found here: https://github.com/gloriouseggroll/proton-ge-custom.
What is Proton GE?
Proton GE (Glorious Eggroll – I don’t get it either, but I like it) is a kind of unofficial spinoff of Proton. It adds in new patches, fixes and tools that are either absent from the main, stable Proton release or just haven’t been included yet.
How do I add Wine to Lutris?
To use the newly downloaded custom Wine builds for a game in Lutris, right-click the game and choose Configure , then click on the Runner options tab. There you will be able to select the Wine version to use with this game.

lutris-fshack Same as lutris , but includes fshack, a software implementation of monitor modesetting (resolution changing), ported over from Proton. With it, your whole monitor will no longer modeset to a lower resolution if the game requests it, instead Wine itself will do it and only do it for the game itself.

How do I update my GE Proton?
Running “protonup” will download and install the latest version of Proton-GE! Just run “protonup” (without the quotes) from the command line to download and install the latest version of Proton-GE. Run it again whenever you want to update Proton-GE.
What is Protonge?
Proton-GE is an unofficial build of Proton that provides the latest releases of vanilla WINE. It has FFmpeg enabled for FAudio by default, and all of Proton’s patches ported over to be applied to WINE, as well as Wine-staging and VKD3D.
Do I need to install Wine with Lutris?
Lutris downloads Wine binaries itself, so you don’t need to install Wine separately to use this application. But it’s recommended you install Wine by using your Linux distribution’s package manager so that all Wine dependencies are installed.

- Select Lutris in the Sources menu.
- Use the Search field at the top of the screen to find the game you want.
- Select the game and click Install.
- Click Install again to confirm the installation destination.
- When prompted, click Install a third time.
